Blog Award

Cate at Budget Confessions and Penny at The Saved Quarter both picked me as one of the recipients of the Kreativ Blogger award. Thanks ladies! Now I'm supposed to name 7 things you don't know about me, and after a year of blogging it's amazing how much I've already revealed.

Here goes:

1. My husband and I disliked each other when we first met in graduate school. He thought I was too "intense" and I thought he was arrogant.

2. When I was in the fifth grade, I won a trophy from the American Legion for an essay I wrote in school about "Americanism."

3. I lived in Manhattan for two years in my 2os.

4. I can't wear wool, even cashmere.

5. For my 40th birthday, I celebrated with a solo 30-day cross-country train trip, after a big party with my friends and family.

6. I've never been able to do a cartwheel, even as a child.

7. My longest term relationship was with my cat Harriet (named after the great Harriets in history- Harriet Tubman, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Harriet the Spy), who lived to be 18. My husband is a close second at 17 years this May.

I'm passing on the award to these bloggers for their creativity in the areas of cooking, crafts, lifestyle, parenting, and more...

Danielle at Less is More Balanced
Alea at Premeditated Leftovers
Kate at An Exercise in Frugality

Before my cat Pittypat died recently, I always referred to her as my oldest friend--and she was!

So funny that you and your husband disliked each other at first. My husband didn't dislike me, but for some reason I thought he did.

I had the same problem coming up with things. It's amazing how many things you tell your readers without even necessarily meaning to.

I'm glad you're continuing your blog Angela.
I enjoy reading it and have noticed how I'm more aware now of the little things that I use to think didn't mean much. All the little things really do make a difference. Thanks for making a difference and showing us how we can too!

Hi Angela. I picked you too today (and Cate's blog).

I so love your site. The CSA deliveries and Thrifty Threads photos are so inspiring, and I love that you are helping shine a light on food waste. The blogosphere and world is a better place with you in it.

What an adventure to do that train trip...most people just dream of that, you actually did it!

All the best,
Catherine

Thanks for thinking of me Angela!

You were on my mind today as I was reading, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle". ( Sorry, I don't know how to underline in comments). Everybody who comes to my house asks me if I have read that book and I finally read it just so I could say yes. The funny thing is that none of these people have made lifestyle changes because of the book. I was wondering today why and realized that if you were not already doing a lot of the things, Kingsolver's lifestyle would seem overwhelming, even if you admired it. I concluded that she could have made a greater impact if she had broken down her lifestyle into baby step challenges like you have - it makes the goals seem so much more attainable.

Off to think of 7 things I haven't shared, that I can share.

Thanks so much for all your kind words.

Cate- Yes, there were lots of things that weren't necessarily said, but could be implied or assumed.

Lisa- Thanks, and you're welcome!

Thanks Cindy- I love to bake too and am really looking forward to trying some of your beautiful creations.

Danielle- thanks. I love that word community-infused. I was such a non-joiner and rebel when I was young, so I guess it just goes to show that people can change.

Jill- Are you kidding, how could I leave out the inspiration for my nearly daily morning granola- I love it! My husband have been together for 17 years this May 15.

Kate- Thanks so much, it really means a lot to me that you read my blog and that we found each other after all this time. Life is funny. And I do think it's true that little things matter when a lot of people do them, a sea change kind of thing.

Catherine- Aw, what a sweet thing to say. And I am so honored to be picked by another cool woman blogger! Thanks Catherine.

Alea- That's an interesting point. I have Animal, Vegetable, Miracle out as my next book to read. I can imagine how sometimes we look at people's lifestyles and it seems completely foreign to us. That's one of the things I love about blogging and reading other blogs- making it all seem like a realistic, feasible, and also fun lifestyle.

Carla- You're welcome! I have been checking your blog ever since I noticed your wii avatar looked exactly like mine. And I like to throw spinach in my smoothies now if I think it's not going to get used up (although that never happens with our CSA spinach, only when I get the bag)

thanks again everyone for commenting!
